A graduate in social and political thought at York University Sarkeesian is also a much sought-after public speaker and she has delivered speech at the TEDxWomen Festival as well as The United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. From an early age Sarkeesian was captivated by the issue of gender identity as well as feminist ideas. While still at school in 2009, she launched her Feminist Frequency website. A woman with ambitions to launch a web-series that would examine the representation of gender in video games was targeted by an internet-based campaign. The harassment didn't dissuade her. She was only able to strengthen her position as a feminist journalist. She has won numerous awards to recognize her prominent contributions to the field of feminism. Anita Sarkeesian has been a media critic for several years and was the creator of Feminist Frequency. The educational nonprofit explores women's representations within the popular culture stories.
